The flat-packable Kheta Lounge chair is designed to encourage resting and recharging at home, counteracting U.S. capitalist grind culture. My mom, Sokheta, almost never sits down at home—even after long days of teaching. I designed this lounge chair to reciprocate the unconditional care that my mom gives to others by inviting her to relax. The four components—two sides, backrest, and seat—are able to be flat packed in a 24” x 26” x 4” box. Festool dominoes, threaded inserts, and pre-drilled holes make it easy to assemble with a simple Allen key and 12 screws. The bent laminated backrest tilts back 13 degrees and the reclining seat is slightly under 12” above the ground, a good intermediate between a standard chair and floor chair that accommodates for varying postures. The seat floats above the frame for a visual cue that it is ready to elevate the user as they relax.
